2. Using this website
Information on this site is general guidance about steel beam work. It is not structural engineering, legal or financial advice for your property. Guide prices and the guide price tool give budget estimates only; they are not quotes. Drawings are indicative and not to scale. Photographs and video are computer-generated to show the kind of work we do and are not photographs of customers' homes.
3. Surveys and quotes
Survey visits are free and do not commit you to anything. After the survey and the engineer's calculations we give you an itemised written quote. The price is fixed in writing once the layout, specification and scope are agreed. A quote is valid for 30 days unless it says otherwise.
4. Changes and hidden conditions
If you ask for changes, or if conditions are found that could not reasonably be seen at survey (for example a missing footing, decayed timber lintel or asbestos), we will explain the effect on price and timing and agree any change with you in writing before carrying on.
5. Approvals and consents
Unless the quote says otherwise, we prepare and submit the building control application, building notice or building warrant, and arrange party wall notices through a party wall surveyor in England and Wales. We do not give legal advice. You are responsible for consents only you can give or obtain, such as landlord or freeholder consent, listed building consent and any planning permission, and for telling your insurer.
6. Your responsibilities
Please give us safe access, clear the work areas of furniture and valuables where possible, and tell us about anything that may affect the work, such as known asbestos, previous alterations or hidden services.
7. Payment
Payment terms, including any deposit and stage payments, are set out in your quote.
8. Your right to cancel
If you agree a contract with us away from our business premises or at a distance, you can cancel within 14 days of entering into it without giving a reason, under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. To cancel, tell us clearly by email or post. If you expressly ask us in writing to start before the 14 days end (including ordering steel made to your engineer's design) and then cancel, you pay a proportionate amount for what we have done by the time you tell us, which may include steel already fabricated for you. If you have not asked us to start early, cancelling costs nothing. We give you a cancellation form with your contract.
9. Standard of work
We carry out services with reasonable care and skill, as required by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and to the approved design. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.
10. Liability
We are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breaking this contract or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded by law.
11. Complaints
If something is not right, contact us at sales@steelbeaminstallers.uk and we will respond and try to put it right.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts, and the mandatory consumer law of your nation applies.
