Opening and lintel services
New and wider openings range from a hallway doorway to a five-metre rear wall for glazed doors. External openings need extra care with weatherproofing, cavity trays and beam stiffness so the doors run properly.

Why does a bi-fold opening need a stiffer beam?
Large glazed doors are sensitive to movement. If the beam above flexes too much the doors can bind or the glass can be stressed, so the engineer limits deflection, which often means a deeper or heavier beam than strength alone would need.
Do I need approval to widen a doorway?
If the wall is load-bearing, yes. Widening an opening in a structural wall is building work needing approval. A non-structural stud partition usually does not.
Can a lintel be replaced without removing the window?
Often, yes, with the brickwork above propped while the old lintel is cut out. Sometimes the frame has to come out to get proper bearings; the survey tells you which.
